Obesity & Knee Pain

Updated: Nov 16, 2023

Did you know ?

How obesity and the knee pain are realated?

For every 1kg Weight lost, 4kg of load is removed from Knee.

So now you can imagine the amount of pressure you bear on your knees if you are obese or overweight.

With all that extra weight on the knee if you start walking, every single day it will cause great damage to knee. The cushion between the knees get ruptured and the damaged particles float within the knee joint.

Conservative Management is best for such conditions

1) Weight reduction : note avoid walking and stair climbing, start cycling which is non weight bearing exercise.

2) Strengthening exercise for thigh muscles

3) Consult Dietician for weight reduction

If at all any Doctor has suggested you to walk in such case , then do not . Strictly avoid walking .

Once your knee pain is reduced then gradually you can start walking .
